A2X offers a helpful export solution for your Shopify accounting, so that you can import into a wide variety of accounting systems, such as FreshBooks and Wave.
This guide will show you how to set up A2X for a manual integration and how to export your Shopify payout data for accounting and reconciliation.
Before proceeding:
Create an A2X for Shopify account.
Connect your A2X account to your Shopify store.
Review our support article HERE for more instructions on how to export and upload your chart of accounts.
Step 1: Set up A2X for manual connection
To begin, go to your Home page, select Custom connection in Step 1, then click Connect to Custom:
Next, go to Settings > Connections in A2X to add your chart of accounts and tax rates.
Upload your Chart of Accounts & Tax Rates Files
A2X needs your existing chart of accounts and tax rates from your accounting system in order to configure your accounting for Shopify payouts. You will need to create the files in CSV format then upload them to A2X.
For more information on uploading your chart of accounts to A2X, please review our support article HERE (note: this article references Amazon, but the steps are the same for Shopify and other sales channels).
You can download sample files from A2X for reference:
The following sample file shows the recommended accounts that you should have in your accounting system. Please export your chart of accounts from your accounting system and format your Accounts CSV file as follows:
Next, in Settings > Connections in A2X, select General Journal Export (CSV) as your Export Format:
Finally, select your bank accounts. Select your bank account where Shopify deposits your payouts, your credit card where Shopify charges any amounts owed and an asset account that can hold your month-end pending payout.
Click Save.
Step 2: Map your accounts and taxes
A2X needs to know how you want to map your Shopify transactions into your accounting system. The mapping process is performed on the Accounts and Taxes page in A2X. You can learn more about the mapping process HERE.
This is a standard part of the A2X setup process for all users (both direct and manual integrations). If you’d like some help with this, our support team can give you some tips and pointers, but in general you’ll want to discuss this with your accountant as it affects the way your financial statements will appear.
Step 3: Export your payout data
You will export a CSV payout file from A2X and import the CSV file into your accounting system.
Export the data individually - click Export Payouts for any given payout:
OR
Export the data in bulk - select multiple payouts then click Post to Manual > Post payouts:
This will combine the data into one CSV file.
