Shopify Re-authentication with A2X

Why you're seeing a request to re-authorize, and what to do next

From time to time, A2X may prompt you to re-authenticate your connection to Shopify. When this happens, you’ll see a yellow banner at the top of your A2X Home and Connections pages.

This request usually happens for one of two reasons:

  1. Shopify changes how permissions (scopes) work
Shopify occasionally replaces existing broad data access scopes with newer, more detailed (granular) ones. When this happens, A2X may require you to re-authorize access to maintain its ability to read the data needed for your account.

📌 Without these scopes, A2X may no longer be able to sync data properly, which could prevent it from generating Settlements.

  2. A2X launches a new feature that uses additional Shopify data
Sometimes, new features in A2X (like more detailed reports, better reconciliation tools, etc.) require additional data access. In these cases, re-authentication is needed to activate those new capabilities.

💡 If you don’t accept the new permissions, your existing workflows will continue, but you won’t be able to use the new feature.

How to Reconnect Your Shopify Store

When re-authentication is required, you’ll see a banner like this:

Click "Approve Access" to begin the authorization flow. You’ll be taken to Shopify to approve the updated permissions.

There are two possible paths:

  • If you're the Shopify store owner (or have permissions to manage apps),
Select “I have access”, then click Connect to approve the new permissions.

  • If you’re not the store owner,
Select “I need to request access” and enter the store owner’s name and email. Shopify will notify them to review and complete the authorization. Once submitted, you’ll see a confirmation banner until access is approved:

Tip: The store owner (or a team member with full permissions) must complete the re-authentication step for it to be successful.
