In January 2024, there was a change within Shopify’s API that impacted how A2X processed Shopify Installments. This change resulted in some missing Shopify Installment data, as well as A2X miscategorizing some Shopify Installments as Shopify Payment payouts

This issue relates to January 2024 only - processing is correct up until the end of December 2023 and for current settlements processed in February 2024 and beyond.

Was my A2X account impacted?

If you processed Shopify Installments orders in January 2024 and have not received communication from our Customer Success team but suspect your account might be affected, you can perform the following checks:

Visit your payouts page on A2X and look for these signs:

  1. Two Shopify payouts with the same end date, where the second payout is marked as inconsistent and typically for a lower amount. The attached CSV data file may include orders from both Shopify Payments and Shopify Installments.

  2. A Shopify payout that doesn't align with an actual bank deposit and isn't a split payment over a month-end.

  3. A Shopify payout that seems consistent but doesn't match any actual bank deposits from Shopify, with the attached CSV data file listing only Shopify Installments orders.

How can I fix the problem?

1. You may need to adjust any Shopify payments that don't correspond with actual bank deposits against the ‘Shopify Clearing Account’ to reconcile them with your deposits.

2. If the discrepancy in the Shopify finance summary is significant, consider making a general journal entry to adjust the differences in the relevant income accounts, offsetting against your Shopify Clearing Account. We recommend that you consult your accountant before making any journal entries.

3. If the difference is material, and you require further help to resolve it, please reach out to the A2X Customer Success team.

What do I do next?

If you have no issues reconciling Shopify payouts and installments for January 2024, your account is likely unaffected. No further action is required.

Our team is ready to assist with any additional help needed to ensure all settlements for the month are correctly reconciled. For questions, please contact our Customer Success team via the blue chat icon at the bottom right of your screen or at contact@a2xaccounting.com.

Known discrepancies in The Finance Summary Report

This A2X Finance Summary Report, under the main navigation, select ‘Reports’ > ‘Finance Summary’, is usually a good way to check that your data in A2X is tying back to Shopify. However, for any date range after December 2023, the Shopify Installments figure in A2X will not match back to Shopify. Please do note that, in this case, it isn't necessarily an indication that your Shopify Installments data in A2X is incorrect. These differences appear to be due to a separate, suspected bug within Shopify's API.
