Switching from A2X for Shopify TikTok to the direct TikTok Shop integration

A guide to moving from the TikTok Shop via A2X for Shopify integration to A2X for TikTok Shop

Written by Elspeth Cordray

This article is for sellers who have been using TikTok Shop via the A2X for Shopify integration and want to move to the direct A2X for TikTok Shop integration.

What is the difference?

The A2X for Shopify integration routed TikTok Shop payouts through a clearing account and posted by order creation date. The direct A2X for TikTok Shop integration:

  • Posts by order delivery date, matching TikTok's own reporting

  • Matches each payout directly to the bank deposit - no clearing account required going forward

  • Handles all transaction types automatically including fees, affiliate commissions, platform discounts and tax lines

  • Supports UK and US sellers, with sales split by customer location so your VAT or sales tax reporting is right for each region

Before you switch

Before connecting the direct A2X for TikTok Shop integration, make sure:

  • Your Shopify TikTok Clearing Account is fully reconciled up to and including the last day of the month before you switch

  • You have noted the date you want to switch from - this is your crossover month

  • Your accountant is aware of the switch and the crossover adjustment process

How to switch

1. Set up your A2X for TikTok Shop account following the steps in How to set up A2X for TikTok Shop.

2. Once connected, wait until you are confident that all your crossover settlements have come through to A2X before running the report. If your TikTok payout periods are short (for example two days), this should happen quickly. If your payout periods are longer, it may take a little more time. Once you are satisfied that all settlements are present, run the Crossover Adjustment Report to identify and reverse any duplicate postings from the crossover period. See What is the TikTok Shop Crossover Adjustment Report? for full instructions.

3. Post the two reversal journals to your accounting system as directed by the report.

4. Reconcile your Shopify TikTok Clearing Account to zero.

5. Decide how you want to handle TikTok Shop in your Shopify integration going forward - see the options below.

Managing TikTok Shop in your A2X for Shopify account going forward

Once you are on the direct A2X for TikTok Shop integration, you have two options for how to handle TikTok Shop transactions that still flow through Shopify.

These options are not mandatory, and you are encouraged to select the preferred option for how you handle your books.

Option 1: Disconnect TikTok from Shopify

If you do not need to keep TikTok connected to Shopify for any other purpose, simply disconnect TikTok from Shopify entirely. The direct integration will handle everything from this point forward.

Option 2: Circular mapping

If you need to keep TikTok connected to Shopify - for example because you use it for inventory management - we recommend using circular mapping.

This maps all TikTok transactions in Shopify to a Current Asset account on the Balance Sheet. The entries net to zero, so they do not affect your P&L, and your Shopify Finance Summary totals match.

Additional step for A2X for Shopify COGS users

If you have COGS enabled in A2X for Shopify, you will need to prevent TikTok Shop COGS from being posted via Shopify to avoid double counting with the direct integration.

1. In your A2X for Shopify account, go to Settings > Cost of Goods Sold.

2. Click on customize your COGS and add tiktok to the Excluded sales channels field.

With this setting enabled, TikTok Shop COGS will be handled by the direct integration only and will not be posted via Shopify.

Can I use the Crossover Adjustment Report if I was using a different tool or a manual process?

In principle, yes - if your previous process posted by order creation date (as most tools and manual methods do), the report logic should still apply. However, we cannot offer assurance on this as we only have detailed knowledge of the A2X for Shopify integration. We recommend working through the report carefully with your accountant if you are switching from a third-party tool or a manual process.
