Obtain the Client ID and Secret from PayPal

To connect A2X with PayPal, you will need to obtain your Client ID and Secret Key from PayPal. Follow the steps below to retrieve these credentials.

  1. Navigate to the PayPal website and log in with your credentials

2. After logging in, you'll be directed to your PayPal account's home page. Click on the 'Developer' menu option located in the upper right corner of your screen.

3. Once you've clicked on the 'Developer' menu item, you'll be taken to the Developer Dashboard, which is the central hub for managing your developer account and accessing developer tools.

4. On the Developer Dashboard, find and select the 'Apps & Credentials' tab from the menu on the left-hand side. This section is where you can create, view, and manage your API credentials.

5. Toggle the switch labeled 'Sandbox/Live' from 'Sandbox" to "Live”' which will ensure that the API credentials generated will be valid for live transactions. It’s located in the upper right corner of your screen.

6. Within the 'Apps & Credentials' section, locate the 'Create App' button and click on it. This will initiate the process of creating a new app associated with your developer account.

7. Enter 'A2X App' into the input field labeled 'App Name' and then proceed to click on 'Create App'.

8. Once you’ve clicked the 'Create App' button, you'll be redirected to its details page, where you can find your API credentials and view the features enabled.

9. Navigate to the Features section, activate the 'Transaction search' functionality, deactivate the 'Native Checkout SDK', 'Subscriptions', 'Payouts', 'Customer disputes,' and 'Invoicing' features, and click 'Save Changes'.

10. Scroll back up to the API credentials section. Take note of the Client ID and Secret Key.

11. Enter this information here in Step 2 of the setup steps in A2X

Determine the Country and Time Zone for PayPal

Next, you will need to select the country and timezone

How do I check my PayPal Country?

If you are not 100% sure which country was picked at the time of creation you can easily check that by navigating to the PayPal website, and at the login screen just below the form, you will be able to see the country for which your account was created.

How do I check my PayPal timezone?

To check your timezone, navigate to the PayPal website and log in.

From the right side menu, choose 'Account settings'.

On the left side choose 'Account Preferences' and then on the top right side, you will find Timezone as an option to update.

Click on the 'Update' button to reveal a popup.

Common problems when connecting:

  1. Problem: I have tried to connect PayPal and I am getting this message in A2X:
"Error while accessing transactions API for account. Make sure you have included permissions for the Transactions Search API in your PayPal app settings."

Solution: Ensure you have followed the instructions in point 9 of Step 1 above, and make changes as needed.

The updates in PayPal do not take effect immediately. Please wait for approximately 30 minutes for PayPal to refresh the token, and then try to connect again in A2X.

  2. Problem: I cannot see the Developer Dashboard as shown in point 2 of Step 1.

Solution: You may not have sufficient permissions granted to your PayPal login to access this section of the PayPal portal. Please request permission from your PayPal administrator.

  3. Problem: The Developer mode is in Sandbox

Solution: You must leave the Developer mode in Live for the token to work successfully.
